Some words on Today’s sunny Winter Series Round One from Alex Carter!!

Round 1 was a story of new cars and returning drivers…

2wd A final
Alex Carter, Paul Timberlake and a rusty Simon Overall after a break.

2wd B final was Simon Joyce followed home by Csilla Ketteringham.

4wd was hotly contested, Nigel Buck took TQ followed by young Joe Howson both of them still learning new cars. Final result was Joe Howson, Nigel Buck and after a horrific start spinning at the first corner Jason Bing.

See you all for Round 2 in November! It wasn’t even cold today….just sayin’

Hear Me Now Bredren!

Yesterday saw the final round of the 2016/17 PRUK and Inside Line Racing sponsored Winter Series at Stotfold! We had a good turnout of over 50 drivers and it made for a great days racing.

First off, on behalf of the club can I thank our sponsor for this series; PR Racing UK and Inside Line Racing who provided some fantastic raffle prizes for everyone who competed in three rounds or more, from PRUK, Maclan and SRT! Also, we would to thanks Adam and the crew from Model Hobby for coming along and bringing their shop for trackside spares support.

So, how did it all pan out? A dry start to round one which gradually turned wet – and then wet for the rest of the day made for some set up changes!

Here are the series winners:

In 2wd:

1. Kit Jones – Schumacher
2. Ian “Mad Man TBR” Buck – Schumacher
3. Alex Carter – Inside Line Models

2wd top under 13:

Joe Sharp – PR Racing UK

In 4wd:

1. Joe Howson – Schumacher
2. John Myall – Xfactory UK & Team Corally
3. Simon Overall

4wd top under 13:

Abe Lyons – PR Racing UK & Team Corally

Kit played a blinder with a perfect score of 300 (best three of five to count) in 2wd and with Joe Howson and John Myall tieing on points it came to a countback decision for 4wd.

Our very very lucky top raffle winners were Joe Howson winning a fantastic SRT Servo and David Orbell who won a simply staggering Maclan brushless 32bit ESC and Maclan 7.5 motor! Everybody who did three rounds or more got a prize though so thanks everybody for coming.

Well… That’s it for The Winter Series 2016/17 so roll on Wednesday nights from May when Fast Forward returns! In the meantime, we are open as usual on Sundays for Revolution.
See you trackside!

Last weekend saw round four of our Winter Series in association with Inside Line Models and it was great to see a top turn out given the cold weather…  The track when we arrived was covered with snow but with a little elbow grease and help we soon had the racing line cleared and practice started in earnest.

Both 2wd and 4wd were well attended with some key battles opening up in the heats!

2wd saw Schuey driver Paul Timberlake take TQ driving his Schumacher KF2 with the NEW Tekin Gen 3 power on board – great drive Paul!  Snapping at his heels though was Inside Line Racing Nigel Buck with his new PR Racing UK PRS1v3 running Absima electrics.  Simon Overall completed the top three alternating between his Associated B5M and his KF2 just to mix things up!

4wd was a real ding-dong between “Mr O Racing” David Orbell running his Durango custom car, Absima and Team C UK’s Alex Carter squeezing everything out of his Team C TM4 and John Myall running his new Yokomo YZ-4 which looked great.  David snatched TQ from Alex with John grabbing third.

The finals were pretty thrilling too with some very close and hard fought racing!

The 4wd B Final saw pole man and Schumacher driver Keith Wardle get off to an awful start with his K1; so Ian Ephraim took up the lead with only Ashley Kew staying in contention at this point.  Keith proved the “Never say die” ethos dead right however by battling back to eventually snatch the lead back from Ian in the dying moments of the race.  It was very exciting to watch and well done Keith.  A lesson for us all there I’m sure!

Keith took the win with Ian in second, from Ashley in third and Paul Tinkler in fourth.  Little Joe Sharp gave his best in difficult conditions too and although he was fifth, showed real improvement by the end of the day.

The 4wd A final promised much and certainly did not disappoint!  A veritable smorgasbord of aggressive 4wd excitement!!

David set off cleanly with Inside Line Models man Alex Carter right on his tailpipe and Ian “Mad Man TBR” Buck pummelling his Schumacher K1 for all it was worth.  These three opened up the lead over the others who it must be said were not too far behind…  Put it this way – a couple of errors and you’d be being hounded no problem.

There really was nothing in it with a superb drive from David Orbell holding Alex off but you always sensed Alex was going to pull a move sooner or later and so it played out…  Going over the fingers Alex nailed his TM4 and leapt clean over David and made it stick – David tried manfully to grab his lead back but couldn’t manage it.  So it finished with Alex taking the win from David Orbell and a solid third from our very own “Mad Man” Ian Buck.

The rest of the A final comprised of Simon Overall in fourth, then John Myall, Jack Angus, Martin Long, Simon Watson, Carl Dufton and Andrew Simpson.

The 2wd B final featured four drivers with pole man Paul Williams driving his Associated B5M, from Adam Bowyer-Lowe, then young Abe Lyons and finally Jamie Robinson.

Abe had an awful start and the final soon settled down to the usual rhythm that finals do.  Like Keith Wardle though PR Racing UK and Inside Line Racing driver Abe Lyons slowly started working his way back up the field driving his PRS1v3 – again showing a never say die attitude pays off in our sport!  Adam Bowyer-Lowe was leading the pack but one small error allowed Abe to come through and take the lead!  Abe held on to the end to take the B final win – a fantastic drive for an eight year old I think.

So Abe grabbed the win from Adam Bowyer-Lowe in second, Paul Williams in third and Jamie Robinson in fourth.

Finally then!  We have the 2wd A final!

Strangely enough although nerve-wracking and thrilling in equal measure; not a lot actually happened in the 2wd A final with all drivers holding their place except for a couple of changes.

Paul “One Minute Mile” Timberlake put in another great drive to hold his pole position and win the 2wd A final from Nigel Buck who was only a sniff behind.  Both Paul and Nigel drove fantastically well that day.  Simon Overall held third (back in his KF2 now!) and PR Racing UK & Inside Line Racing driver Pete Lyons driving a PRS1v2 took fourth from Schumacher’s Joe Howson.  Joe had qualified fourth with his KF2 and it could have gone either way as Joe had been right on the money on Sunday!  Great driving Joe!

Dan Usher and Dave Williams swapped qualifying positions for sixth and seventh and Dom Tolkien and Richard Sharp likewise held their qualifying eighth and ninth positions.  LORD Chris “He Dines At The Royal Table” Hampson had I believe knackered his car out earlier in the day so didn’t start unfortunately!

So all in all a fab day given the cold and the snow – the track looked totally different by the afternoon and a nice shade of astroturf green!  Also very interesting to see the new PR Racing UK cars breaking into our Winter Series upper echelons with two in the 2wd A Final top 5 and a B final winner!  Well done though to Schumacher as always with three in the 2wd top 5 also!

See you tomorrow or at the final round!!  Sunday March 13th.
